…animal had been killing and eating livestock, dogs
A JAGUAR measuring more than seven feet in length and weighing more than 150 pounds was shot and killed by a hunter with an arrow and bow at Hymacobra, a village in the interior just off the mouth of the Moruca River in the North West District. A villager known as Sister Madonna said the jaguar attacked the village at nights, killing and eating scores of dogs, poultry and livestock.
She said residents who live very far apart in the densely wooded interior became very afraid of the jaguar and were terrified to venture into their farms.
Madonna, who does cassava farming, said the jaguar attacked and killed her dog one day on a trail while she was going to harvest bitter cassava. She said her dog was a faithful dog that always accompanied her to the farm. She said she cried many days for her dog.
The woman, who lives alone, said the jaguar at nights would target homes, climbing up steps and scraping at doors after smelling people.
She said many residents complained that the jaguar was seen under their houses many times searching for dogs or poultry.
According to Madonna, an old hunter of the village decided that the jaguar was taking advantage of residents, and so he went out into the jungle with his bow and arrow and killed the wild animal.
She said the hunter skinned the jaguar, cut the meat into pieces, boiled it in a big pot, then fed the remaining dogs which had a feast for three days.
