North Ruimveldt Police Outpost commissioned

THE North Ruimveldt Police Outpost at Chrisanni Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, has been commissioned by Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, as he urged the ranks stationed at the location to develop good relations with their community. During his address to the gathering, Rohee called on the ranks stationed at the location to develop a professional attitude in which they can form healthy, friendly, and cooperative relations between themselves and the community.
He added that ranks ought to be aware of certain criticisms from the public from time to time, and seek to correct their shortcomings.
Rohee said, “We hear from time to time that members of public would call the station or outpost and there is no answer, or the lights are turned off in the middle of the night. Our interest is not to brush these things under the carpet, because we have a reputation and sometimes these things get their way into the press and we have to react to it.”
The minister noted that he was however, pleased with the work of the contractor for ensuring the building was well constructed and in time, and he again called on ranks to perform to the best of their ability in fostering good relations with the community.

The minister noted that it doesn’t matter how small a community is, sometimes there is a need for the establishment of a police outpost.
Rohee said, “I think that is the most critical point in considering the location and establishment of a police outpost or a station.
He noted that in this year’s budget, several police stations and outposts will be established in many other areas of the country, at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, and at Abary Creek, West Coast Berbice.
Rohee said that the various police outpost and stations were strategically established to meet the needs of the community based on planning of the ministry and police force.
Also making remarks was Acting Commissioner of Police, Leroy Brumell and Assistant Commander of ‘A’ Division, who
said that the police presence in the community will be felt and noted also that they (the police) cannot survive without the input of the community.
They added that there is the need to protect the resources of tax payers and they owe that to the public, in adapting a professional level of service by way of interaction with the community and the public at large, with members of the community being a part of the management of North Ruimveldt Police Outpost, and ensuring the community outreach programme at school will also be a success.
Meanwhile, MOHA Superintendent of Works, Fiaz Khan, giving a brief profile of the construction of the building, said that the cost of the construction is $10,331,240; and the outpost consists of two lockups, an ablution area, one barracks, a CID room, the Officer-in-Charge office, kitchen area, inquiry area, concrete walkway, wooden chain link fence/gate, electricity and potable water supply.
Construction lasted from July to December, 2011, and the size of the one-flat concrete building is 1196 square feet.
