In land dispute matter…

Elderly couple accuses AFC’s Ramjattan of fraud
AN ELDERLY couple on Tuesday accused attorney-at-law and Alliance For Change (AFC) parliamentarian Khemraj Ramjattan of “backstabbing” them in a land dispute matter.
The couple claims that after representing them for almost a decade in the land dispute matter, Ramjattan opted to drop the case and begin representing the other party in the same dispute. This has caused them the lawyer’s credibility.
According to Michael Taharally and Veronica Da Silva, the couple at reference, Ramjattan deliberately misrepresented them in the property-related matter which involves one Sheik Naseer.
Naseer, who was the administrator of a Camp Street, Georgetown, estate is claiming ownership. Ramjattan, allegedly without the knowledge of Da Silva, the sole owner of said estate, sold the property to Naseer for far below what it was worth.
Taharally said that despite knowing that the property was valued by a government-approved valuator at G$89M, Ramjattan went ahead and signed off on a consent order on their behalf and sold the property to Naseer for G$55M.
According to the couple, “There should not have been that, because you cannot rob Inland Revenue; you can’t go under a value when you have a government valuation. It’s not a private valuation; the government valuation was $89M and he went under that value.”
Da Silva likens the situation to being “stabbed in the back” since she has been paying her taxes for almost two decades for the said property.
The woman, who is a pensioner, also produced a number of receipts which revealed that she paid Ramjattan & Associates in excess of G$2M to represent her in court.
She said that Ramjattan, who was supposed to be her attorney, joined with Naseer and is now fighting her for the property.
The couple said they intend to restart the case with fresh legal action.
