Teenager on trial for carnal knowledge
THE trial of seventeen-year-old Shazim Bashlot, indicted with knowing a girl under 15 years, will commence on Tuesday at the Berbice Assizes. A mixed jury was sworn before Justice Brassington Reynolds and an adjournment was granted, to allow recently retained Defence Counsel Rabindranauth Singh, to be properly briefed.
Bashlot, of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, is alleged to have had penetrative sex with a 13 year old girl, on February 3, 2009.
State Prosecutor Donelle Weaver will make her opening address at the adjourned date.
