Clarification

IT has been reported in the press recently that the Government of Guyana is pursuing a change of the amending mechanism of the Treaty of Chaguramas from unanimity to majority and that the same was an issue discussed at the recently concluded CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Suriname. Please be informed that the Government of Guyana is not pursuing a change of the mechanism for amending the treaty from unanimity to majority.  In fact, that is a matter which was put to the Legal Affairs Committee of CARICOM for their advice and recommendation at a meeting held on the 29th February, 2012 at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Guyana. The matter is still under review.

Additionally, it was not an issue discussed at the Heads of Government meeting in Suriname.
Hopefully, these mistakes will not be repeated in the future.
