General Services triumph 2-1 to capture Bosai football title

GENERAL Services triumphed over Plant Operations halting them by a 2-1 score-line to claim honours when the BOSAI Minerals Group Inter-Department football championship concluded on Saturday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground. Urged on by a vocal crowd, General Services played an exciting game which saw equal opportunities for the two sides in the early changes.
However, just when it seemed an even contest Services gained the go-head goal which came from a squared ball from Keith Gilkes which was reached by a Dave Hopkinson volley in front of the goal, which caught the Operations goalkeeper Rawle Adams truly beaten in the 38th minute.
The battle continued in earnest still with neither side dominating but exhibiting some fine display of attacking football.
When the first half ended the Services held sway by a 1-0 margin but in the 55th minute the Operations levelled the scores when the ball was played down the left flank into the middle. After a clearance and another attempt proved fruitless, Travis Hinds was there to head home a superb goal to send Operations’ fans into instant celebrations as if the game was won.
But before the celebrations for that equaliser could have died down, Services regained the lead when in the 57th minute Ryan Noel played a neat pass to Shawn ‘The Nigerian’ Arthur who ran on to blast the ball past the flailing hands of Adams, again undone by a tremendous goal.
The MVP for the tournament was General Services Mark Louis who had a hat-trick in the semifinal.
This took the fight out of the Operations and while the scores remained unchanged to the end it was a fitting final to this championship.
There were penalty shootouts for the gemale employees and managers competitions.
Winning the Female penalty shootout was Ms Hollice Joseph while the Male Managers’ penalty title was copped by Wilbert Bethune.
