Bosai acquires more generating capacity for dust collectors
BOSAI Minerals Group Inc. will be purchasing two additional three megawatts (mw) Wartsila generating sets to complement the six already in use at its power generation plant on Washer Pond Road, Mackenzie, Linden. The acquisition will put added power at the disposal of the operations, which will be more than adequate for use by the bauxite company and the burgeoning Upper Demerara River community and its environs.
The decision was taken, recently, in light of the two dust collectors coming on stream, by the end of the third quarter, for the industry in which pollution has been a grave concern to residents.
According to Warehouse and Logistics Senior Supervisor, Mr. Lethem Wilson: “Because we know that, with the setting up of these dust collectors, everything, we do is with more power, the least BOSAI would want to know is that we are short circuiting the community.”
He said another significant contribution is that it is going to ensure electricity is always available.
BOSAI General Foreman in the Electrical Department, Mr. Sherwin Joseph said:”We have ordered all our necessary cables, which are special cables, coming from North America. Once those are here, we will install them and then we have the testing phase that we have to go through to integrate with our existing system.”
He said, presently, they are testing the new motor starter for a fan that has been upgraded from a 700 horse power (hp) to 1,200 hp.
“So, in order for that to work, we need to make sure that we have adequate power to run it and also supply the community. Hence, we have the two generators that we are to buy from Omai; with those in operation the dust collectors will be easy on the generating capacity.”
