–    in drive to augment National Blood Bank stocks
THE Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO) of Grove/Diamond, East Bank Demerara  held its second annual blood drive last Saturday as part of activities hosted in observance of the 15th death anniversary of former President Dr. Cheddi Jagan. The blood drive was held at the National Blood Bank at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
Participating in the blood drive was Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the organisation, Ms Devi Ramcharitar, who told this newspaper that, last year, when the PYO had made a decision to participate in contributing to the National Blood Bank, the organisation knew it was supporting a good cause.
She stated that members have publicly announced this event, and the entire country was invited to participate in the blood drive.
There were thirty pledges when the exercise was announced; and, so far, the event has received a more positive response than last year.
She claimed that the PYO had even had a Canadian citizen staying in Guyana making donation to support this worthy cause.
This year, the event was said to have received a more positive response than last year’s, with various well-known members of society gracing the occasion in support of a worthy cause.
Ms. Ramcharitar also revealed that there are improvements to be made in relation to this activity, in that the Grove/Diamond PYO intends to increase this blood drive to twice a year.
At the end of the day, 21 units of blood had been received. The Grove/Diamond PYO has most certainly made an excellent contribution to the Blood Bank, and has promised bigger and better participation for next year.
The Grove/Diamond PYO group is known for its numerous community works and its vibrancy in planning and getting things done, as was last Saturday’s blood drive. The PYO is the youth-arm of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
