The Law of Karma

THE Guyana Sevashram Sangha was established by an Act of Parliament in 1956.
But prior to this eventful legal proceeding, what was practically a series of miracles of human and spiritual input – well-documented and much lauded — had established the Guyanese branch of the Sangha, which has become the pilgrimage site of millions of Hindus the world over, especially those former students of all races who had received tuition in academics as well as spiritual knowledge at the institution during their formative years.
That an unschooled orphan named Seecharran could be transformed into a brilliant saint who has tutored thousands of persons, many of whom now straddle the globe as super-achievers in every professional, spiritual or creative dynamic, is in itself a miracle. It is a story that has become legendary during the lifetime of this great saint, the current administrative and spiritual head of the Guyana and New York branches of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, His Holiness Swami Vidyanandaji Maharaj (lovingly called Guruji), who is indisputably one of the most dynamic spiritual leaders and successful educators in the western hemisphere.
The story of Seecharran is the epic of a saint.  In brief, he was born on Friday, 3rd July 1926 as a gift from Mother Ganga to his mother, and was promised to the service of the Lord after a pandit read the patra and prophesied that, unless he dedicated his life to the Lord, he would die at age 25.
Orphaned at age ten, Seecharran’s education was practically nil, as he struggled for survival even as he awaited the advent of his Guru, who fortuitously arrived in the form of His Holiness, Swami Purnanandaji Maharaj, who first came to Guyana in 1955 at the invitation of prominent Hindus in Guyana — especially Mrs. Resaul Maraj (Big Mai) — who were prepared to invest heavily in time, effort and resources to establish a branch of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha in Guyana.  The story of Guruji and the Guyana Sevashram Sangha has been published in the Sunday Chronicle and can be found through Google.

Guruji expounds on philosophies of his dharm and his guru
During Maha Shivraatri observations on 20th February last, Guruji elucidated to guests and devotees, in a sermon from which excerpts, as follows, have been extracted: “This recognition (of divinity within) also goes to the founder of the western branches (of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha), Guru Swami Purnanandaji Maharaj, who arrived in our motherland, Guyana, in November 1955 and transformed Hindu education and rituals in Guyana by giving us the Hindutwam & a Nonsectarian Hindu College & Hindu  primary school, which is now named Swami Purnananda Primary School after him.
“Om pūramada pūramidam pūrāt pūramudacyate
pūrasya pūramādāya pūramevā-vaśiyate
Om śānti śānti śānti.
“Om! That (paramatma) universal soul is prefect, this atma, the individual soul, is perfect. Perfect is born from perfect. Taking out perfect from the prefect, what remains is perfect.
Om! Peace! Peace! Peace! Only God is perfect & so is His creation.
Ordinary mortals see imperfection in everything, including creation; not realizing that THE WORLD IS A MIRROR OF OUR OWN REFLECTION. For example: Durjodhan & Youdisthir.  This also applies to one’s own guilt, to throw the blame on others.
Shivratri is one aspect of Hinduism — a faith without a founder. Hinduism operates upon the universal inevitable Law of Karma, that every action has its consequences.
The universal law of the operation of the universe is known as the ‘Law of Karma’, as stated by Goswami Tulsidasji in his Ramayana, as under:
KARMA PRADHAN VISHVA RACHI RAKHA,
JO JAS KARAI SO TAS FAL CHAKHA
Whatsoever you sow, that is what you will reap.
3. DISTINCT FEATURES OF THE LAW OF KARMA
The main and distinct features, and the important characteristics and criteria of the Law of Karma are:
(1) This law is eternal —
It has come into force with effect from the date on which the sun started rising in the east since the inception of the universe, and it will remain in force till the end of the universe.
(2) This law is universal —
It is applicable to one and all the persons and creatures in all the countries in the world and the entire universe.
(3) This law is applicable — In all the generations and eras of earthly cycles, Satyug, Treta, Dwapar and Kaliyug; and in all the centuries – past, present and future.
(4) This law is totally perfect —
There has not been a single amendment in the law since time immemorial and up till now; and there is not going to be a single amendment in the law till the end of the entire universe.
(5) There is not a single exception —
In this Law of Karma, nobody can escape the canons of this law.
Even the father of Lord Rama (incarnation of the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God) could not escape his destined death due to the forced separation of his son Rama.
Shri Rama also, in due respect to this law, did not interfere by giving extension of life, even to his own father, Dasratha
The omnipotent, formless (NIRAKAR) God, once incarnated in the human form (SAKAR) as Rama, also had to humbly respect and obey the Law of Karma; and he did not show any favouritism or partiality to anybody, even to his own father.

The most important section of the law is
JO JAS KARAI SO TAS FAL CHAKH.
As you sow, so shall you reap.
The application of this law is beyond manipulation, intervention or corruptibility.
The wrongdoer will definitely be punished for his wrong deeds. Nobody can escape the penal provisions of this law. There is no escapement, and no exception is allowed in its application.
Similarly, a pious man performing good actions will definitely be rewarded for his good deeds. Each and every good or bad action will have equal and appropriate reaction, and will invariably rebound on the doer, attracting just reward or punishment.
Power in any form is God-given; and when abused, is taken away from us. Power of beauty, health, wealth, strength — military or political — worst of all, religious power, is bound to crumble.
Saints & sinners, all are responsible for the consequences of actions performed.

1.    Hinduism is a religion of Freedom. Unlike other religions, it does not dogmatically assert that the final liberation is possible only through its means, and not through any other means.
It is only a means to an end, and all means which will ultimately lead to the end are equally approved.
Hinduism never demands any undue restraint upon the freedom of human reason.  There is freedom of thought, feeling, and the will of man.
It does not compel anyone to accept any particular dogma or form of worship. It allows everyone to reflect, explore, and accept or reject.
All sorts of religious faiths, various forms of worship, and diverse kinds of rituals and customs, have found their honourable places side by side within Hinduism.
Hinduism does not condemn those who deny God as the creator and ruler of the world, nor does it condemn those who do not accept the existence of an eternal soul and the state of Moksha or liberation
The pristine glory of Hinduism throughout the ages has been maintained by the cosmic power manifested in a human form called an incarnation, or God man, who lived & preached the human values (Dharma).
At the junction of Satya & Treta Yuga, Lord Rama a divine incarnation as the king of Adhoya, In his own life, he demonstrated that country comes before personal life.
In ancient times, kings were born to lead people & nations. Today, leaders are chosen by people. The voice of the people is the voice of God. When tyrants trampled upon people, they were removed from power by divine intervention. E.g. Lord Rama, as the incarnation, removed Ravana, the tyrant king.

Guruji was conferred with the Golden Arrow of Achievement by former President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
