Fitzgerald takes third consecutive GDA Mashramani Darts Classic

SUDESH Fitzgerald kept his nerves to walk away with the Guyana Darts Association (GDA)-organised Mashramani Darts Classic for the third consecutive year following his 4-1 defeat over Sherwin Greene, when the tournament was held at the Malteenoes Sports Club two Sundays ago. Four events were played and these included Blind Draw Doubles, sponsored by the Association; Open Doubles sponsored by GuyOil, Three-Member teams jointly sponsored by RPH Mining Supplies UniTech Awnings and Wayne Alphonso and the Open Singles sponsored by LENS, which had a lien trophy, replicas and cash prizes up for grabs.
In the final of the Open Singles which was played in a best-of-seven showdown, Fitzgerald, who also had the shortest game in 17 darts, the highest checkout with 157 points and four 180s for which he received incentives, defeated Greene four games to one.
In the third place playoff, Latchman defeated veteran table tennis player Colin France to take that position, while Fitzgerald gained the first lien on the LENS trophy and collected a first place replica and $40 000 for his win.
In the final of the Blind Draw Doubles, Greene and Andrew Balchan defeated Norman Madhoo and Rayman Williams for cash prizes, while in the Open Doubles, Fitzgerald and Balchan defeated Madhoo and Nicholas Seetaram for cash prizes.
In the final of the Teams 701 Event, the Team of Anil Latchman, Bholonauth Ramdial and Lalchand Rambharose defeated the team of Madhoo, Seetaram and Vibert Yearwood, also for cash prizes.
Greene, Latchman and France won trophies and cash prizes, while the two lone women in siblings Rosetta Hiralall and Hemwattie Amyan were awarded cash incentives. The GDA wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the sponsors.
