TWO women, who made use of abusive language to each other, were, yesterday, ordered by Magistrate Alex Moore to cook the favourite meal for one another. Arita Gibbs, 39 and Stacy Campbell, 20, both tenants at Lot 5 Vryheid’s Lust, appeared at Sparendaam Court, also on East Coast Demerara, where they both pleaded guilty to the respective cross charge.
Police Sergeant Bernard Brown, prosecuting, informed the court that the defendants had an argument on February 27 and verbally abused each other.
The prosecutor said Gibbs accused Campbell of throwing lime skin at her front door and the latter alleged that the former smokes marijuana in the yard.
The magistrate then enquired, from the women, what is their favourite meal and told them they will now learn to live like neighbours.
Campbell said hers is chowmein while Gibbs favoured cook-up rice and the magistrate instructed that Gibbs go over to Campbell’s house for her meal on March 7 and Campbell is to get hers at Gibbs’ home on March 8.
Magistrate Moore directed that, on both days, the women will spend time with each other and talk out their differences.
“Sit in one another’s house and talk. Find out what is the problem and work things out. Do this before you end up in court, again, and face more charges. The next time it might not be this way,” he warned them.
The women are to return to court on March 14, to report how good were the meals at the risk of having to cook for each other, once more, the magistrate said, adding that, if this strategy does not work, he will have to find something else.
Meantime, the defendants were put on $10,000 bail each.
