I WISH to refer to a letter in the Kaieteur News in its issue of Friday February 24, 2012, under the caption ‘PPP/C desperately needs to wriggle out of its minority status – Guyanese must stay alert’ by Lurlene Nestor. In relation to this letter, kindly allow me to state the following:
(1) Lurlene Nestor of the PNC-led APNU is obviously afraid of fresh elections, since she is aware that the PNC, now APNU has never won a free and fair election in our country. Nestor needs to do some reading on Guyana’s political history which will help her to stop spewing hogwash which the Kaieteur News and Stabroek News eagerly await to gobble up just to fulfil their anti-government agenda.
(2) Nestor is correct; we have a ‘tyrant opposition’ in Parliament which is totally uncivilised to Guyana’s new political dispensation given by the people of Guyana at the November 2011 elections.
(3) Guyana’s new political dispensation calls for the combined opposition in Parliament, now a dictatorship, to work in harmony with the government in the spirit of consensus decision-making and compromise to move Guyana forward.
(4) But so far the combined Parliamentary Opposition has failed the people of Guyana using their one-seat majority not to cooperate with the duly elected government of our country with the bogus belief that they are the government instead. They are not, and must stop fooling the people.
(5) The APNU and AFC leaders speak with forked tongues, and Nestor knows this very well. Their public claim that they will be working in cooperation with the government for Guyana’s development is so far a hoax and quite rightly Nestor is “urging every Guyanese to be alert” in the event there is a snap election.
(6) Nestor must know that the continued non-cooperation of the combined Parliamentary Opposition with the government will be a sound justification for fresh elections.
(7) But the passage of the March 2010 national budget will be a fundamental area of cooperation where the people of Guyana will finally judge the political credibility of APNU and the AFC. Nestor needs to take note.
(8) The people of Guyana would suffer terribly if APNU and the AFC do not support the passage of the 2012 budget. If this happens, fresh elections would certainly be a reality. In this regard, Nestor needs to know that the final days of APNU and the AFC are now numbered.
Nestor must stop spewing hogwash in attempt to fool people
