DEN Amstel forward Andre Hector scored twice on Sunday against Grove Hi Tec Football Club, to give his team a 2-1 win and qualify them for the 10th place in the 2012 Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Super League’s preliminary round match played at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground. The first game saw New Amsterdam United Football Club whip Bartica Mill Ballers United 5-3 to finish runners-up in the group.
The game became a physical one after Hector opened the score sheet in the 7th minute with a first-time pass from national utility player Kester Jacobs, to send his team into the lead 1-0. Seven minutes later Grove responded through Orson Francois who got a free ball after the goalkeeper failed to gather properly and paid the price as Francois converted, equalising in the 14th minute.
With the wind against their faces the home boys then regrouped and began attacking the East Bank side with midfield distribution from Jacobs and Hector who has always delivered for Den Amstel. He did it again in the 23rd minute taking the score to 2-1, which remained the same at the half-way mark.
The resumption saw more attack from Den Amstel, as the visitors looked to score more goals but the wind and the East Bank side’s defensive tactics forced the score line to remain unchanged.
In the first match, New Amsterdam United whipped Mill Ballers United of Bartica 5-2 with Leonardo Adams scoring a hat-trick in the 56th, 68th and 90th minutes and was supported by his older brother who doubled in the 39th and 47th minutes.
Mill Ballers got their goals from Andre Stoby in the 51st minute and Jermaine Christiani in the 88th minute.
Den Amstel will now join defending champions Alpha United, BK Western Tigers, Pele, Victoria Kings, Buxton United, Rosignol United, Seawall, Milerock and Amelia’s Ward in the 2012 Guyana Football Federation National Super League which will commence this Sunday with matches at MSC, GFC, BVCC, Buxton and Blairmont grounds.
