GOVERNMENT pathologist Dr Vivikanand Brijmohan has removed samples from the liver of Keisha Thompson, the teenager who collapsed and died during the Berbice Mash celebrations on Sunday. The liver was found to be infected, following a post-mortem examination at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary yesterday.
Sources have opined that the teen may have had a medical condition which was not under medical supervision. The liver, according to information received, was masked with inflammation.
Mother of the dead teen, Doris Sharples, confessed that her daughter had previously experienced bouts of unconsciousness, but her condition had not been taken seriously.
Meanwhile, investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Berbice Educational Institute student, who was discovered lying motionless along Main Street, New Amsterdam, in the vicinity of the Guinness Bar on Mash Day. Revellers had picked up the fifteen-year-old and had placed her to lie on a table within the ‘hang out spot’, attempting to revive her. Police ranks on a mobile patrol were alerted after rescue efforts had failed.
Accompanied by one Rawle Hollingsworth of Georgetown, who had initially alerted the police, cops transported the teen to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. When contacted, her mother recalled that, on February 22 last, she had sent Keisha to purchase kerosene oil, but had, minutes later, received a telephone call from an official of the N/A Hospital, who had stated that the teenager was involved in an accident.
Doris Sharples, the mother, said she went to the health institution, where her daughter was released into her care despite having been hit by a car. The distraught woman claimed that she had earlier sent her daughter to view the Mashramani Costume and Float Parade with an older sibling, Marissa, but Marissa had released Keisha into the care of classmates.
