Star was prepared to meet with her Maker
-had confided in close friends the end was nigh
WHITNEY Houston eerily told pals she felt her “time was coming,” and spoke of “seeing Jesus” in the hours before her death, it has emerged. The tragic star is said to have become increasingly spiritual, quoting Bible passages and saying she felt her end was near.
The day before she was found slumped in the bath of her Los Angeles hotel suite, she reportedly told a friend: “I’m gonna go see Jesus; I want to see Jesus.”
And on Saturday, with her death mere hours away, she reportedly said: “You know, he’s so cool; I really want to see that Jesus.”
But Whitney, who battled drink and drug addictions, had claimed in one of her last interviews that she was finally comfortable with her life.
The 48-year-old soul legend said she had laid her demons to rest, and was focusing on raising her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 18.
Chatting on the set of her forthcoming comeback movie, ‘Sparkle’, Whitney explained: “Now that I’m older — and I think more seasoned, after my experiences in life — you become more mature. It coincides with my life as a mother.”
She said of her return to the spotlight: “I don’t think of it as like a comeback; I think of it as a gift God gave me. It was not that I said, ‘Oh, I want to entertain.’ It’s in my family bloodline; I can’t help it. It’s innate; it’s natural.”
Pop diva Whitney portrayed herself as a strict mother, determined to ensure that Bobbi Kristina does not make the same mistakes she did in her wild days.
She revealed: “I am a hands-on mother, and I am a disciplinary mother; I don’t make idle threats! You know what I’m saying!
“I have priorities; maintaining my daughter is my first.
“And she also has show-business in her blood. She’s doing acting classes, and vocal coaching.
“So I keep her busy with that, and she’s pretty happy with that.
“She’s 18 now, and she’s going to be a woman in a minute. Lord have mercy!”
Poignantly, Whitney reflected on what the future might hold.
She said: “You never know what happens; just be ready for whatever it brings.
“You try to balance it, and you try to make the proper decisions and be prayerful about it. Make sure that you confer with that inner spirit. And, you know, just do the best you can.”
The remake of ‘Sparkle’, which also stars singer and actress, Jordin Sparks, 22, is the story of three sisters who form a singing group.
They then have to deal with drugs and the price of fame.
The story was so close to Whitney’s heart, that she suggested making it, and was also working on the musical soundtrack.
Meanwhile, pictures have emerged of Whitney relaxing by the pool at the Beverly Hilton, the hotel where she was found dead days later by her aunt, Mary Jones.
She is seen wearing a black one-piece swimsuit, shades and a straw hat, with a coloured drink glass at her side.
It has been claimed she was drinking almost every day before her death, after falling off the wagon following the end of filming for ‘Sparkle’.
Showbiz site TMZ reports her family was allegedly concerned that her friends were accommodating her craving for drinks.
But rumours she may have been using aliases to get prescriptions from doctors were scotched.
There was said to be no evidence she or her doctors ever did anything illegal or out of the ordinary.
This comes after fears the singer could have used fake names, like the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, to get medicines. (TheSun)
