MARIAN ACADEMY, on Carifesta Avenue, in Georgetown, hosted its fourth annual blood drive in its auditorium last Sunday. Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran was also present to see the staff of the National Blood Bank and Red Cross Society assisting with the exercise.
He said he was pleased with the number of people who turned up and even more satisfied that the host institution has made the event a tradition and has been playing the leading role in such drives, noting the importance of just one unit of blood.
Ramsaran also encouraged more schools to get involved like Marian Academy, which through the years, has adopted a positive attitude that he enjoys in the cooperation of the students and parents.
Former student Russel Sundar, who was a donor, proudly stated that it was his 14th donation to the Blood Bank, knowing it is for a very good cause.
He said giving on Sunday made him very happy, as he is doing it for the honour of his alma mater, for which he has been doing ever since Marian Academy made its first collection while he was still a student in 2009.
A member of the Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA), Mrs. Michelle Lowe stated that she is proud to be a participant and would make it her duty to continue for as long as she can. She encouraged others, who have never donated, to do so.
She disclosed that the Sunday collection netted 138 units.
