WEST Demerara’s Den Amstel Football Club sprang a surprise on Bartica’s Mill Ballers Football Club whom they defeated 2-1 at the Bartica Community Centre ground on Sunday evening, in their preliminary round match for a place in this year’s Guyana Football Federation Super League tournament. A brace from Andre Hector which was scored in the 30th and 67th minute was enough to guide Den Amstel past their more illustrious opponents, for whom Whitney Welcome got the equalising goal in the 59th minute, after they trailed 1-0 at lemon time.
The tournament continues this Sunday with three more matches. Mill Ballers will take on Grove Hi-Tech at home, Amelia Ward’s face Bakewell Buxton Stars at the Mackenzie Sports Club while Den Amstel and New Amsterdam United square off at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, with all three matches kicking off at 19:00hrs.
