WINNERS Connection Football Club/Thomas United Football Club 52nd Anniversary Mashramani Challenge Cup will now start on Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda, and will see four clubs in a double-header, scheduled to kick off at 18:00hrs. The tournament, which was delayed due to the inclement weather over the past week, will see teams battle for over one million dollars in cash prizes. Matches will be played at the Beterverwagting Community Centre and the Mackenzie Sports Complex (MSC) ground. 16 clubs have been invited to participate.
This Sunday, East Coast Demerara’s Victoria Kings Football Club will meet West Demerara’s Uitvlugt Football Club in an East-West battle at 18:00hrs while the supporting game will see a Linden/Georgetown invasion with Pele Football Club and Netrockers Football Club clashing at 20:00hrs.
Victoria Kings FC will be going all out to revive themselves from their 2-1 loss in the recent 22nd Annual Kashif & Shanghai Football Tournament against Trinidad’s Pro League club Caledonia AIA and will be looking to get closer to the big apple of the tournament being the first prize.
Little is known of the Uitvlugt side and the west side will be leaving no stone unturned in their effort to proceed to the second round.
The supporting game will ignite the evening with Netrockers Football Club and Pele FC doing battle.
Victoria Kings lineup will be under the leadership of former national midfielder Pierre Joseph and will be supported by Calvin DeSouza, Robert DeSouza, Kwesi DeSouza, Alden Lawrence, Trevor Fraser, Horace Graham, Samuel Blackett, Ralston Morrison, Ruben Morris, Aubrey Gibson, Kirk Warren and Andrew Williams.
