PYARG conducts weekend training camp

THE President’s Youth Award-Republic of Guyana (PYARG) conducted a two-day training camp for unit leaders and other members last weekend in the Amerindian community of Capoey on the Essequibo Coast. Field Officer Herald Alves said the focus was on first aid and camp craft and it was part of a series of activities to prepare participants for expeditions that will take place during the months of July and August, this year.
According to him, the first aid sessions were guided by Mr. Ide Wilson, another PYARG Field Officer and participants were taught basic life-saving  skills.
They were also involved in practising healthy lifestyles, under the tutorship of Peace Corps volunteer, Ms. Emily Johnson, who led a fitness session in water training.
For the camp craft course, Mr. Alves taught those who took part how to build simple shelters in the open if lost in the jungle while on an expedition, and they also learnt to select a camp site and apply simple life-saving skills.
He said several other PYARG programmes and projects were discussed during the weekend camping.
