Fernandes and executives re-elected to manage GHB

THE Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) held its Annual General Meeting and election of office-bearers last Tuesday evening in the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pavilion, where Philip Fernandes and his executives were re-elected to manage the affairs of the Board for another term. Following the reading of the President’s report for 2011 and an outline of the programmes for this year which were positively received by those in attendance, Fernandes received a vote of confidence.
In fact, the executives who served under Fernandes for the past term were returned en bloc, minus secretary Gregory Sills who was excused due to illness as he was required to leave the country for treatment.
In his absence, assistant secretary/treasurer Tricia Fiedtkou, who later replaced Sills as secretary, chaired the AGM and acted as Returning Officer during the elections.
Since it is unclear whether Sills will be able to return to his duties during this year, it was proposed and agreed to elect one additional committee member who would function as the assistant secretary/treasurer while Fiedtkou takes up the responsibilities of secretary, hence Jonelle Webster was elected to this new position.
Some of the programmes the GHB will have their eyes on this year include a Men’s league for first and second division players in March, Women’s league which they expect to bully off in May, Indoor tournaments for clubs and schools, along with Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company-sponsored indoor tournament which will be held in October.
As is customary over the years, the GHB’s year of activities will culminate with the highly anticipated Diamond Mineral Water-sponsored International Indoor Hockey Festival, which will see clubs from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados rub shoulders with their local counterparts at the recently resurfaced National Gymnasium.
The newly elected body therefore is as follows: Philip Fernandes (president), Rawle Davson and Ivor Thompson (vice-presidents), Tricia Fiedtkou (secretary), Jonelle Webster (assistant secretary/treasurer), with Gail Harding and Brian Asregado executing the duties of committee members.
