Woman clerk hospitalised after robbery at Corentyne business

A SALES clerk is currently hospitalised after being injured in a robbery  at Wazir Top Quality Rice Shop, Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne, Berbice, on Tuesday. The patient, Jaiwantie Sharma, 50, was rushed from Skeldon Hospital, where she initially sought medical attention, to New Amsterdam Hospital, where she underwent a surgical operation.
It is reported that, about 15:00hrs, an identifiable male posing as a customer went to the business place and requested two bags of rice, which the employee handed  to him.
However, moments later, after walking to the main entrance, he retraced his steps, approached the unsuspecting woman, held her from behind and placed a knife to her throat.
Sharma was scared for her life but unable to call for help and complied with the robber who demanded cash from her purse, which amounted to $74,000.
The victim was left to bleed from the wound on her neck after the assailant fled the scene. She became unconscious but, minutes later, the proprietor, Wazir Dilchand, on entering, saw his employee and conveyed her to Skeldon Hospital.
Police are continuing their investigations into the robbery.
