Man makes Court appearance for Berbice fireman murder
SOHAN Busgith known as ‘Maxi’, for whom a wanted bulletin was issued following the Christmas time death of Berbice fireman Delon Collins, appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud on Tuesday, charged with the murder. Busgith, 23, of Liverpool, was remanded to prison at Mibicuri Court, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, too.
The prisoner has to make another court appearance on February 27.
On December 23 last, Collins, 21, attached to the New Amsterdam Fire Service was shot and killed by an armed bandit during a robbery at Alness Village, Corentyne.
Shortly after 23:00hrs, Nadeeen Crawford, a probation officer, in company with her three under-age children and her lover, Collins, had returned home from Christmas shopping at the Rose Hall Town.
As they approached the main gate, the children, Janel, Joshua and Janella disembarked the vehicle to open it and were approached by an identifiable male.
Crawford, alerted by the shouts of her children, also came out to investigate but was choked and relieved of her gold rings, a chain and a pair of gold bangles. She was taken into her garage and forced to lie on the floor, where more demands were made of her.
Scared for her life, Crawford instructed her nine-year- old daughter, Janella, to go to her bedroom and bring the $17,000 from there, which she gave the armed robber.
Meanwhile, Collins, unaware that a robbery was in progress, emerged from the car and was confronted by the bandit, who fired in his direction, fatally wounding him and fled into Alness backlands.
