Energetic, creative performances light up the NCC stage
IT was a display of colour, creativity and energetic performances as the Children’s Mashramani Dance Competition yesterday continued at the National Cultural Centre.
The participants sent the audience wild with excitement at the excellent display of skills were showcased. The competitions saw performances under several categories, including Religious Beliefs, Legends and Traditions, Interpretive and Traditional, and saw children between the ages of 11-13 and 14-17 participating.
In first place for the individual’s dances under the Religious Beliefs category was Karisma Charles from the Richard Ishmael Secondary School, dancing to ‘Testimony’.
Soprano Hendricks, representing the Tutorial High School, and dancing to ‘Dance of Praises’, walked away with second place under that same category.
While Anthony Lloyd, after a moment of discouragement, was cheered on stage by fellow students and he managed to cop the third position under the Religious Beliefs category.
Christ Church Secondary’s Tatyana Rock copped first place after captivating the judges with her interpretive piece ‘Lone Reveller’.
Amina Lovell, from East Ruimveldt Secondary, came in second, dancing to ‘The Patriot’, under the Iinterpretive category, and Tutorial High’s Shenika Oxford came third, dancing to ‘Dance Till Ya Drop’.
Under the 11-13 group dances, in the category of Religious Beliefs, East Ruimveldt Secondary came first, performing ‘Lights of Hope’, and second place went to Queen’s College, dancing to ‘Victory’.
The winners of the category Legends and Traditions was Richard Ishmael Secondary school.
In second place was East Ruimveldt Secondary, dancing to ‘Celebrations After Emancipation’, and Charlestown Secondary came third, performing to the ‘Passion of Drums’.
Only two schools in the age group performed under the Social Commentary.
In this category, Christ Church Secondary took first place, dancing to ‘Saint Cry’, leaving Chase Academy in the second position.
Meanwhile, the 14-17 dances will continue today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
