ADRIAN Hartman, 26, of Lot 7 William Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge of unlawful wounding. Before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, he was not required to plead to the indictable offence, particulars of which said, on February 4, at Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Patrick Zammet.
Police Sergeant, Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, said Zammet is still hospitalised after suffering a stab wound just below his heart and it not yet out of danger.
Attorney-at-law, Ms. Latchmie Rahamat made an unsuccessful bail application for Hartman, claiming that the incident resulted from Zammet’s aggressiveness.
The lawyer said Zammet was armed with a cutlass while Hartman was unarmed and defending himself.
Hartman will make his next appearance at Bartica Court, Mazaruni, to which the case has been transferred, on February 10.
