OVER the past 15 years, I have been on record calling for the setting up of a police outpost in the Pomeroon River. To date, no sign of my call to set up the outpost has materialised, and I would, through your medium, Editor, repeat this call.

There could be no doubt that such an outpost will serve several purposes, especially with the increase of traffic to Port Kaituma and other mining areas.

The outpost will serve to monitor the boats plying these areas, and now with our fishermen coming under increasing attacks from pirates, this need is justified more than ever. The Coast Guard could also use the outpost as a base from where they could operate to monitor the waters of the Pomeroon River.

I think the government should act quickly and set up the outpost in the Pomeroon.
