Cricket Association assists Devers WELL known cricket commentator and journalist Sean Devers was recently diagnosed by Jamaica based brain surgeon Professor Crandon with Glioma, a type of tumor that starts in the brain or spine and was given the name because it arises from glial cells, with the most common being found in the brain.
According to Devers who is a former national Under-19 off spinner, the cost for his surgery is US$100,000 (G$20M) and last Friday, the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) became the first entity in Corporate Guyana to show their support for Devers.
In a release the GFSCA noted that, “It was recently brought to our attention that Mr. Sean Devers, a very prominent and leading contributor to Guyana, Regional and WI Cricket, has suffered a serious form of illness. Mr. Devers is known to us all.
This news came to us as a shock, especially since he recently participated in the commentary of our last finals in December, 2011, the Bakewell Cup and seemed quite fine to us.”
“We the members of the GFSCA, believes that serious problems require speedy and decisive action. Not all talks, hence our management opted to take the lead position in trying to assist Mr. Devers.
On the behalf of the GFSCA and our associate websites www.guyana-cricket.com and www.Caribbean-cricket.com, which are hosted and managed by Mr. Peter Gonsalves, we wish to advise that we have managed to raise the sum of US$2,600 or G$520,000 equivalent, which we will now present to Devers.
Of this sum, US$1,000 was contributed to him by the above mentioned web sites www.guyana-cricket.com and www.caribbean-cricket.com. We are aware that other individuals and organizations have offered to assist Mr. Devers and we take this opportunity to urge them to hasten in their efforts as time is of great importance” the release stated.
