Two die in Mahaicony smash up

(Demerarawaves) Two employees of a privately-owned company contracted to work on the Hope-Dochfour Relief Channel were killed when the pickup they were travelling in slammed into a truck on the Mahaicony Railway Embankment. Dead are Mohamo Haimnauth  of Little Baiaboo,Mahaica and the driver Ray Haimnauth of Enmore. Injured is Omesh Haimnauth. They are all relatives.
The accident occurred around 5:45 PM.
Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy said the now badly mangled vehicle is not the property of the Ministry of Agriculture. He said that someone apparently took a sign of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority(NDIA) and placed it on the ill-fated vehicle.
Ramsammy said the men had assisted in taking in NDIA equipment to Mahaicony to repair a section of the flood-damaged road. While they were leaving, the pickup slammed into a truck which received minor damage.
