The Indian American community of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area yesterday celebrated India’s Republic Day. The celebrations were held at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, 7601 Hanover Parkway, Greenbelt, Maryland. A decade and a half after India launched market reforms, the country emerged as an economic power. Quite fittingly, the theme of the celebrations was “India, a Global Power.”
Special tributes were paid to the leaders and people of India, who have made the country’s reawakening possible.

Editor, the occasion also featured a variety of patriotic songs, folk music, dances and other cultural shows from different parts of the country.
Community and political leaders, Indian Embassy officials in the US and other dignitaries also shared in the celebrations.
