BRANDON Cumberbatch, 28, of Lot 29 North Sophia, has been charged, indictably, with simple larceny. On his appearance before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday, it was alleged that, last January 18, he stole a $6,000 silver chain belonging to Brian Eastman.
Cumberbatch made an application for bail but it was refused after Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, successfully objected, pointing out that the accused had given a different address, Lot 1515 Norton Street, Wortmanville, also in Georgetown.
The prisoner’s mother, who was present in court, maintained that her son, indeed, lives with her in Sophia but said he also stays with his grandmother in Wortmanville.
Cumberbatch has to be back in Court on February 3.
He was one of two men who suffered a similar fate in the same court.
The other Dezel Smith was accused of having, on January 24, stolen a $26,000 gold ring from Lester Jackson.
Smith claimed the virtual complainant told him about the jewel that day when he went to the latter’s residence to watch a movie but he did not take it.
Prosecutor Mansfield said Smith gave the Police two addresses and his case was put off to February 3.
