GENERAL Manager of the Transport and Harbours Department (T& HD), Marclene Merchant, has confirmed that the M.V. Torani, which suffered mechanical difficulties recently and had to be towed to Supenaam by another T&HD vessel, the M.V. Malali, is back in operation, having undergone repairs. “The M.V. Torani underwent repairs after it was towed to Supenaam and the vessel has resumed its regular operations,” Merchant said.
The M.V. Torani had developed mechanical difficulties in the vicinity of Hogg Island, in the Essequibo River, whilst en route to Supenaam, and was subsequently towed to Supenaam.
At the time of the incident, there were seven trucks, six large Canter vehicles and two cars onboard the vessel, with the only passengers being the drivers of the vehicles.
The M.V. Torani is one of three boats that ply the Supenaam/Parika route on a daily basis.
