AT about 19:20 hrs on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, businesswoman Lynette Mangal, 52, her husband Rajendra Mangal, 52, and her son Avinash Mangal, who operate the Mangal and Sons General Store at their Lot 216 Richardsville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara residence, were assaulted and robbed of personal jewellery, cell phone cards valued at $200,000, and an undisclosed sum of cash by two men armed with firearms.
The victims were in their business place when the perpetrators entered and held them at gunpoint. During the robbery, Rajendra Mangal was struck to his head by one of the perpetrators, and had to be taken to the GPHC for medical treatment. Rounds were discharged by the men as they escaped. The police are on the hunt for the perpetrators.
