Youth Basketball Guyana unveils exciting 2012 programme

EXECUTIVE Director of Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Chris Bowman on Sunday announced the 2012 Calendar of activities which he claims will be an exciting year for the organisation focusing mainly on players and coaches development.
Bowman explained that the YBG will start with a seminar for all youth players, teachers and coaches with the aim of enhancing the level of the sport. He also announced that an Elite U-16 basketball academy will be launched leading up to the Inter-Guyana Games (IGG) tournament scheduled for November..
He noted that the seminar will take an educational approach to update all the participants, coaches and teachers in the 2012 programme and will update them in all the activities of the calendar of events and their expectations and roles to enhance the YBG programme.
The YBG will be celebrating its first anniversary this Saturday and will launch the first Elite basketball academy for U-16 players.
He indicated that the YBG will also be having a National bus tour to seven areas across Guyana in March ending at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). The tour will be the first of two prospective International showcases.
Noting that this year the YBG will continue to work to improve girls’ basketball, develop a model for mini basketball and strengthen the structure of the National Schools’ Basketball Festival and pilot Caribbean School basketball Championship.
The YBG is committed to a vision of balancing youth development through the vehicle of basketball and is also committed to a partnership that is guided by the principles of respect and win/win.
Bowman expressed thanks to the partners in the project, Haynes Foundation, National Sports Commission (NSC) and Ministry of Education, for their support as the YBG continues to take the leading role in building a strong and sustainable youth basketball infrastructure from grassroots up lamenting one that values leadership, scholarship and prowess and is committed to developing well-rounded student athletes.
