As PI resumes…

Vic Puran retained to prosecute in treason case
THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the treason charge against Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Major Bruce Munroe, his wife, Carol Ann and former Army Reserve Officer Leonard Wharton, resumed yesterday with attorney-at-law Mr. Vic Puran as Special Prosecutor.

Army Colonel Sydney James was called to the witness stand to identify voices on tape recordings and he will continue to testify at the resumption tomorrow.
On the previous occasion, also before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, another witness, Quincy Critchlow, did similar identifications.
At the adjournment yesterday, Puran told reporters he was asked to prosecute the case as Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack is busy presently.
Pointing out that he was retained by the State, Puran declared he would work for anyone who retains him.
The Munroes and Wharton are accused of having, between December 1, 2009 and December 16, 2010, plotted to level war within Guyana and force the President out of office.
The charge for the capital offence is linked to the arson at the Ministry of Health in Brickdam, attempts to burn Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court buildings and the gun attack at Brickdam Police Station, all within Georgetown, in July 2009.
