More evidence taken at PI against terrorist accused

THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the multiple charges against the men charged following the 2009 terrorist activities resumed before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday. Colin Jones, Randy Mars, Basil Morgan, Anthony Watson and Jahfar Sampson sat in the dock as Moheen Gafoor, owner of Auto Tech Car Rental Service, continued his testimony.
Defence counsel Nigel Hughes and George Thomas, representing Morgan and the other accused, respectively, were present, as well as Police Inspector Stephen Telford,who is prosecuting.
The five prisoners are charged with murder, attempted murder and setting fire to a public building. They made their first court appearance in 2010 after the arson at the Ministry of Health, on Brickdam; attempts to burn the Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court building as well as the gun attack on Brickdam Police Station, all in Georgetown, during July 2009.
The proceedings have been adjourned to January 18.
