DETECTIVES from Central Police Station in New Amsterdam are investigating the theft of US$4,900 from a bag that was left in the office of the Officer-in-Charge of the New Amsterdam to Mara District. Assistant Superintendent of Police Guy Nurse, whose office is in Central Police Station, left the bag with the equivalent G$980,000 and went a short distance away on Monday afternoon.
Prior to his departure, his secretary and an electrical technician, who were attending to lighting fixtures, had been inside his office.
On his return, at 16:45 hrs, he made checks and discovered the money was missing. Several individuals were questioned but no useful information has been received.
Last Christmas Eve Day, traffic policemen Jermaine Lynton and Mark Campbell reported their Blackberry phones stolen as they were cleaning offices at Traffic Headquarters, in New Amsterdam, too.
The men said they had placed their handsets, valued $107,000, on a table but, on completing their task, could not find the instruments.
