During the presentation of prizes at the end of the tournament, seasoned player Tony Hanoman advised his junior counterparts to concentrate on their chess openings to improve their play.
He observed that many were lacking in that regard and he also warned the juniors that they may not be able to match up their fellow players who know their openings.
Participants were allowed 20 minutes each to complete their game in the Rapid tournament using clocks provided by the Guyana Chess Federation. The competition attracted 27 chess players.
