First resident Mexican Ambassador bids emotional farewell
THE first resident Mexican Ambassador to Guyana, Mr. Ferdinand Sandoval, after a three-year tenure, said goodbye in an emotional farewell speech delivered at a cocktail reception last Friday evening at the Georgetown Club, in Camp Street. Addressing the gathering, he said, with the opening of an Embassy in Georgetown, Mexico has sent out a clear political signal about its interest and commitment to work together with Guyana and the countries that make up the Caribbean Community.The diplomat noted that, throughout his tenure, the Embassy has worked for the rapprochement between Mexico and Guyana through culture, art and entrepreneurial possibilities and seeds planted by the mission have the best chance to grow on the basis of interest and effort that both peoples and governments show.
Sandoval expressed gratitude for the support, confidence and friendship of Guyanese, noting that he and his wife, Martha, felt at home due to the warmth and hospitality of the Guyanese people.
He said the potential of relations was still developing and wished the current government success.
Sandoval mentioned that Mexico would have general elections in July and a new government will take office in December.
President Donald Ramotar, who was present at the function, wished the diplomatic couple success and praised the envoy for his commitment to fostering better relations.
He tendered his appreciation to the Mexican Embassy for introducing Mexican culture through the medium of film festivals and other cultural events.
The Head of State also lauded Sandoval for the professional approach he took as Ambassador to Guyana, describing him as a consummate diplomat.
