– to answer charges of assault, threatening language and damage to property
CONTROVERSIAL Attorney-at-Law James Bond, who has been selected as a Parliamentary representative of the political coalition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) for the Tenth Parliament of Guyana, is slated to appear in Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry’s court today to answer a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of threatening behaviour, and one of damage to property. The APNU Youth Coalition for Transformation (YCT) member allegedly attacked Adrian Williams, a 29-year-old barber and teacher, over a message sent by Williams to Bond’s former wife.
The incident occurred last Saturday at around 13:00hrs, when Williams was in his shop assisting his nephew with his school work.
Reports are that Bond, in company with others, angrily confronted Williams at the latter’s shop, and threatened him while using a gun.
Williams subsequently told reporters that the assault stemmed from a Blackberry conversation he had with Bond’s former wife. However, he did not reveal the nature of the conversation.
According to media reports, the victim said Bond and another person stormed his business place on Saturday, hurling threatening remarks which led to a scuffle, when bond allegedly withdrew a firearm and continued to issue threats.
However, the APNU activist, while acknowledging that he indeed had an altercation with the barber, claimed that it was not physical.
Bond told the state-owned NCN that, at the time of the incident, he was not in the Ruimveldt area but, rather, was at Liliendaal. Bond said he had received a call from the police, who requested that he visit the Ruimveldt Police Station.
Bond said that, on Sunday, he reported to the Brickdam Police Station, where he and Williams agreed that they were going to settle the matter. However, at noon on Monday, Bond said he learnt that he was charged for assault, threatening language, and damage to property.
