Pensioner in danger of losing leg following robbery attack
A PENSIONER was hacked  repeatedly  by bandits  and is in danger of losing a limb, following a robbery attack  at his home at Betsy Ground, East  Canje, Berbice on Sunday  afternoon.
Sixty-year-old Dilip Narine was, at the time of the incident, attending to his dogs, at their kennel, situated at the back of his Lot 44 Betsy Ground home, when he was suddenly attacked by a cutlass wielding man who inflicted several chops on his body, rendering him motionless, before entering the western door on the lower flat, before mounting  an inner stairway, with an accomplice, who was reportedly armed with a handgun.
At the upper flat, the men went to a bedroom occupied by the injured man’s daughter Meena Gobin, and removed from a wardrobe therein  an identification card, a Guyana passport along with $40,000 in cash, before retracing their steps and escaping.
Narine’s daughter said she was alerted after hearing her screams from her father.
The injured man was taken to the New Amsterdam hospital, where health  officials opted to transfer him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, in an effort to save the almost severed leg.
Police are continuing their investigations.
