Berbice Chamber hails GTT Jingles Competition…

A golden opportunity for young Guyanese
THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Limited (GT&T) has come in for loud praise from the Berbice Chamber of Commerce for its commitment and dedication to developing  the lives of young people in Guyana.
Imran Saccoor, President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce, voiced the sentiments when he stated that, “GTT has opened a gateway of opportunity to the many young and talented performers in both the Bollywood and English segments of the Jingles Competition, and it is hoped that the artistes can follow on their talents in helping to raise and change the way of the music industry in Guyana.
“The performances, no doubt, throughout the tournament, were phenomenal, and GT&T’s visionary Yog Mahadeo must be commended on special initiatives he has directed his company to connecting with the Guyanese populace,” a release stated.
According to the release, the Chamber believes that, as a corporate business, GTT has lived and upheld the promise of giving back to its community; and the Jingles and Song Competition, The 10/10 Countrywide Cricket, $1 Minute talk, and other special promotions are all testimony to the company’s commitment to giving back.
Berbician Gail Ann Singh was roundly congratulated for her performances throughout the competition, and the Chamber joined all Guyanese in wishing her the best, along with her English segment counterpart, Brandon Harding, on their respective achievements in winning; and the Chamber hopes that they both will continue to further excel in the music industry.
It was a long time since the Albion Ground entertained such a show, and the GuySuCo management must be commended for allowing Berbicians the opportunity to once again enjoy the facilities at the venue, which is the best suited location in all Berbice, and was once the hometown venue of major concerts and shows.
The Chamber is calling for Region 6 to have modern indoor centres, such as cultural centres and auditoriums, so that the region can be more competitive in hosting events without being threatened by inclement conditions.
“Berbicians are heartened that a competition of such calibre came to our region, and we trust that GT&T will continue to make Berbice the hometown venue for this segment of their competition in the years ahead.
“Also, the Chamber wishes to encourage and appeal to GT&T to consider, for their 2012 tournament, (bringing) the finals of the GT&T 10/10 (cricket) to Berbice, since the county is a “cricket crazy region” and the support for the game is enormous”.
