THE electorate has given ALL political parties a chance to show that they can work together so that they can prove that they have the maturity to make shared governance/national unity government work, and already those proposing shared governance/national unity government are themselves causing gridlock in choosing a Speaker of the National Assembly. The Speaker of the National Assembly needs to be as impartial as possible. Clearly, Mr. Freddie Kissoon (we call him The Trash as he will trash your reputation and what he writes is mostly trash…it is his superhero name), and Mr. Mark Benschop are in error in delegating Mr. Nigel Hughes as Speaker of the National Assembly.
My first choice as Speaker of the National Assembly is Mr. Raphael Trotman as I feel that he has the maturity to be impartial. The PPP/C Government of President Donald Ramotar can afford to be magnanimous and nominate Mr. Raphael Trotman as Speaker of the National Assembly. The PNC/APNU would/should hardly complain as they would feel that they have one of their own as Speaker of the National Assembly, same with the AFC.
One thing you got to be careful of is Mr. David Granger. He is a stranger who is used to giving commands that are followed. This is not what Guyana needs, we do not need a military dictatorship. His selection of Mr. Dr David Hinds as a Parliamentarian is crazy. Dr David Hinds believes his colour gives him a right to rule. Since when does the colour of your skin help you to make policy?
Mr. Raphael Trotman is clearly above the race game and just wants to do what is best for ALL Guyanese.
Let me make this clear, I am not an AFC supporter.
In closing, I would like to wish ALL Guyanese wherever we are a very Happy New Year as we continue to watch the politicians, watch the businesses and watch the media.
Already GRIDLOCK in choosing a Speaker of the National Assembly
