EMLEX Darpaul (no address given) has been charged with unlawfully assaulting his reputed wife, Elizabeth Mohabir. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the January 3 offence, particulars of which said the assault caused the woman actual bodily harm.
Police Corporal, Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said the defendant threw away food that the virtual complainant had purchased and cuffed her on the face.
The prosecutor did not object to pre-trial freedom but asked that conditions be attached and the magistrate put the defendant on $25,000 bail.
Darpaul was also bonded to keep the peace until he returns to court tomorrow.
