Burglary accused lit house afire to prevent arrest
ANDREW Ramroop, 41, of Lot 85 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday, on a break and enter and larceny charge. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, accused of having, between December 30, 2011 and January 3, 2012, broken and entered the storage bond of Ashook Narwani and stole merchandise valued $14.3M.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said, based on information received, ranks went to the home of Ramroop and recovered some of the booty but, when an attempt was made to arrest him, he threw gasolene on the floor and lit a fire preventing them from arresting him.
The Prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the ground that the prisoner may flee the jurisdiction as he made an attempt already to avoid being arrested.
The case was transferred to another Court for January 6.
