2011 was a good year for softball cricket, says GFSCA

THE Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) organised and managed, for the first time in 2011, two nationwide softball tournaments held in three categories. The Male/Female Open and Male Over-40 were run simultaneously.
The Stag/El Dorado-sponsored tournament was held in the first half of 2011, and the bakery giant Bakewell-sponsored tournament was held in the latter half.
The GFSCA held on October 28, 29 30, 2011 – the first time in Guyana’s softball history – an international tournament featuring sixteen teams.
The tournament called the ‘Guyana Softball Cup’ featured eight teams from Canada and USA and eight local teams.
With the above and together with GT&T pulling off another fantastic 10/10 softball tournament, softball players and fans will definitely say that 2011 was a good year for softball cricket.
Also in March 2011 the GFSCA sent two teams to Florida Cup held in Florida, USA, and one team to Independence Cup in July 2011 held in New York, USA. Our greatest regret and loss was the tragedy that happened to our beloved member Bedi Ramjeewan.
This year, the GFSCA plans to hold two more nationwide tournaments, send two teams to Florida Cup to be held on March 2, 3 and 4, one team to the  Independence Cup in New York in July and one team to Toronto, Canada at the end of August.
Their first inter-county Softball Tournament will be held on September 30. Last year the inter-county could not have been played due to the massive preparation of the Guyana Softball Cup.
The first nationwide tournament will begin on January 22 to be sponsored by The City Mall of Regent and Camp Streets. The final is set for May 6. Teams can call organiser Wayne Jones at 650-1790 or e-mail us at guyanafloodlight@hotmail.com. For news and information, please visit our website at www.guyana-cricket.com.
The GFSCA would like to say “thanks” to all their sponsors and all those who supported their initiative in 2011. In 2012 we are looking forward to work with teams who support the GFSCA in carrying out its mandates for what it stands for.
The GFSCA would also like to encourage the  other softball body, when organising a competition, to kindly state the date of the final, so that softball teams and fans will know when the competition will finish. GFSCA wishes all Guyanese a happy and prosperous New Year!
