… ‘Wiggy’ Dover hopes to capitalise on opponents’ mistakes
WHEN the semifinals of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)-organised, Banks DIH/Banks Beer-sponsored Soccer Festival kick off tomorrow night at the Georgetown Football Club ground, tactical prowess will be the order of the day. With over G$6M in cash and prizes up for grabs, Sunburst Camptown FC, Alpha United, Beacon and Fruta Conquerors will all battle for a place in the final of the prestigious tournament which will be played on Sunday at the world renowned Georgetown Cricket Club ground, hence an evening of exciting football is expected to be displayed.
Sunburst Camptown, under the leadership of Bahamas-based Technical Director/Coach Paul James, have their eyes on the prize.
Speaking with Chronicle Sport, James indicated that the Campbellville lads have not been up to scratch as yet but a lot more will be expected.
He noted the inclusion of ace forward Nigel ‘Powers’ Codrington who has brought stability to the squad and they are expecting a very hard game against the country’s best football club in Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United who cannot be taken lightly.
His opponents’ coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover explains that the Camptown side will not be taken lightly as well, and keen competition is expected, while he will be looking to capitalise on his opponents’ mistakes.
Apart from Codrington, Sunburst Camptown will sport in their lineup, Troy Prescod, Jahal Greaves, Orlando Gilgeous, Sheldon Shepherd, Peter Parks and Rishawn Sandiford while Alpha will look to Howard Lowe, Ronson Williams, Andrew Murray, Philbert Moffatt, Leon Dwight Peters, Kelvin McKenzie, Abassi McPherson and Anthony Abrams to take them to the final.
At stake is G$3M for the winners and G$1.5M for the runners-up while the third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $750 000 and $250 000 respectively among other individual prizes.
Apart from Banks DIH Limited, the tournament which is in its first year is being sponsored through the kind generosity of Courtney Benn Contracting Services Limited and McNeal Enterprises Limited among others.
