Salvation Army closes Christmas appeal today

THE Salvation Army will take its Christmas Appeal Kettles off the streets today, so persons who have not yet contributed to the humanitarian cause or who would like to give again are being asked to take the opportunity.
The drive was launched with a formal ceremony at Georgetown Club last October 10, where former President Bharrat Jagdeo was the special guest and  Divisional Leaders, Majors Vilos and Yvrose Exantus were installed.
The couple has, however, been recently called to take over the leadership of the Salvation Army in Haiti, the largest such division in the Caribbean, to where they leave on transfer on January 3, 2012.
Their successors, Majors. Emmerson and Carolinda Cumberbatch are due in the country on January 4 and their installation is scheduled for January 15.
Under its theme ‘Caring is Sharing’, the Salvation Army, each year, makes a public call to citizens to join in giving to support its mission of caring for the needy and less fortunate.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Leaders and Officers of the Salvation Army join with the Advisory Board in expressing gratitude to all those who have so kindly given, be it in the kettles or through the commercial banks.
