I read with some amount of amusement in the letter writers’ column of your newspaper edition of December 23 a letter captioned “Freddy is not a tax evader” written by Mr. Christopher Ram. I am now left to wonder if this is the same Christopher Ram whom I presume is a Chartered Accountant and who at great pains appears to be defending the tax returns of Mr. Kissoon. One wonders whether this same Christopher Ram is the person who actually prepares Mr. Kissoon’s tax returns judging from the manner in which he is so vigorously defending Mr. Kissoon.
On matters such as whether Mr. Kissoon is a tax evader or not, Mr. Ram should know better than make such a wide, sweeping statement as it is only Mr. Kissoon and, of course, the GRA, who can determine this. Are we led to believe that Mr. Ram has become so arrogant, pompous and self righteous that he can now pronounce on anything that suits his fancy from what prompted the demand notice being sent to Mr. Kissoon to file his Property Tax returns to even, as can be seen from the content of his letter, whether the PPP/C Government should be entitled to rule this country? What arrogance from a man whose own submission of his returns to the GRA has been called to question based on his involvement with the administration ,and further, subsequent sale of the Tower Hotel and many other private sector companies that he has controversially parted company with including notably that of Precision Woodworking and more recently, Bakewell, among others . In view of the foregoing, can Mr. Ram tell the Guyanese nation whether he himself is a tax evader?
Finally, I challenge Mr. Kissoon to tell this nation whether Mr. Ram prepared his tax returns that he filed with the GRA and further whether he disclosed to Mr. Ram all the material facts that would allow him to make a true and accurate disclosure of his income, his property and all of the sources from which he acquired his assets. If he fails to do so then the GRA should immediately investigate both Mr. Ram and Mr. Kissoon for tax evasion, the former at once so that this nation can know from where Mr. Ram acquired his asset ownership overseas which includes many properties along with high-value vehicles for his family. I have some amount of the evidence of him receiving income from overseas which I am prepared to share with the GRA as a former client of his firm, if and when they require such information.
Mr. Ram should know better than to make a wide, sweeping statement
