– several suspects detained, some stolen cash recovered
THE police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 21:45hrs Wednesday night at the Western Union outlet at Church Street, Georgetown which was robbed of $10M by two bandits armed with a gun. Investigations have revealed that employees Maria Pires, 20 years, and Samantha Adonis, 32 years, were in the business place when they were held up by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The perpetrators then took away $10M along with the victims’ cell phones and escaped on a motor cycle.
According to unconfirmed reports last night, at least $6M of the stolen money has been recovered and a number of persons are in custody.
A news report on the online “Demerara Waves’, said two of the six detainees include one of the female employees and her boyfriend. Part of the stolen money was found at two separate locations. According to DemWaves, the man is denying any involvement in the heist.
