Two fire disasters averted

THE Guyana Fire Service (GFS) averted a major disaster Wednesday morning when it doused the flames in a vehicle that was fire bombed on Lamaha Street, Georgetown. It was reported that around 02:00hrs, when an explosive was thrown into an unoccupied jeep parked in front of a dwelling house and it ignited.
That was one of two blazes to which the GFS responded early that morning. The other was also discovered about 02:00 hrs at Hack’s Rice Mill, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, where a bin with paddy was destroyed.
But the GFS saved the rest of the mill and the cause of the destruction is being investigated.
