THE Police Scouts Association, last week Monday, received from Food for the Poor (Guyana) Incorporated (FFP), a complete marching band set valued about US$1.2M. These instruments were given to FFP by an unnamed generous overseas donor and the handing over was done at Agricola, where the scout groups from there, Grove and Diamond, East Bank Demerara communities were represented.
FFP Executive Director, Mr. Leon Davis made the presentation to Senior Superintendant of Police C. Hicken.
“I always feel that there are not enough activities for youths in Guyana. And what the Police Force is doing in these communities is very helpful to the parents of these young people. We need more activities in all communities that will see positive influence emerging from our youths. I would further like to thank the scouts for showing their interest in music, since it my belief that our country lacks musicians,” Davis remarked.
Commander of Police ‘A’ Division, Assistant Commissioner; George Vyphuis acknowledged that the Commissioner of Police is the driving force behind the Scout Movement.
The Commander accepted the gifts on behalf of the Top Cop, stating that the relationship with FFP is one that speaks volumes.
Vyphuis said FFP has always answered calls from the Force and the interest is further shown now by involvement in the development of the scouts musical pursuit, which is seen as a big plus.
He also thanked FFP for the computer training kits that are servicing the youths from the same communities.
Present, too, were Director of Music, Assistant Commissioner, Cecil Bovell and other police ranks.
